GLORIA

"When the world blows up, I hope I go down dancing." So sayeth Gloria Bell, the smart, passionate, open-hearted heroine at the heart of Sebastián Lelio's tender and funny GLORIA BELL. The movie is a remake of GLORIA, Lelio's 2013 award-winning Spanish film. The movie asks the question, Can a divorced, 50-something woman with a penchant for wrap dresses and bad decisions be the center of her own story? The question sounds absurd, until you consider how few films have focused on such a character.

Lelio says that he wanted to revisit GLORIA because of this particular moment in American culture. "The story of a woman in America today, claiming her rights to be seen, felt urgent again. There's a political dimension now, and that's part of the excitement of it."

The movie has already drawn praise for Julianne Moore's performance in the title role. "The genius of Moore," Anthony Lane wrote in The New Yorker, "is how plausibly, and how patiently, she fills the space of ordinary lives."GLORIA BELL opens in the Starlight this Friday, and it's going to very busy for a solid two weeks, so advance tickets are strongly advised.

If the box office phenomenon GET OUT (2017) was your cup of tea, you'll likely appreciate Jordan Peele's new horror flick US, which opens Friday in the Rose. The reviews for US are over the top. Check it out - Rotten Tomatoes

Just over 100 tickets have already been claimed for our free Rose Theatre Member showing of WOMAN AT WAR this Saturday, March 23rd at noon. Tickets are available only at the box office, with a limit of one ticket per member.

Sunday the Bolshoi Ballet presents THE SLEEPING BEAUTY at 11:00 A.M. And next Friday we open STYX, a very well made, taut thriller starring Susanne Wolff. "Carrying practically the entire film, Wolff is never less than remarkable in a demanding role...The fully inhabited turn should further help cement her international status as a star to be reckoned with." -The Hollywood Reporter
