Emily

Date TBD
Emily

EMILY imagines Emily Brontë’s own Gothic story that inspired her seminal novel, Wuthering Heights. Haunted by the death of her mother, Emily struggles within the confines of her family life and yearns for artistic and personal freedom, and so begins a journey to channel her creative potential into one of the greatest novels of all time. Explore the imagined life of one of the world’s most famous authors and the relationships that inspired her – her raw, passionate sisterhood with Charlotte and Anne; her first aching, forbidden love for Weightman, and her care for her maverick brother whom she idolizes.

Starring Emma Mackey (SEX EDUCATION) in a revelatory turn as the title character. Actor-turned-director Frances O’Connor (MANSFIELD PARK, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST) makes her directorial debut with EMILY, from her own original screenplay.

R, 130 min.

"This is the way you hope things might have been for Emily simply because it makes her more human. Rather than being an ethereal character entirely caught up in the realms of her own imagination, it puts her in touch with the world the rest of us inhabit." – Sydney Morning Herald

"O’Connor clearly isn’t afraid of rattling cages when approaching sacred texts. There’s something refreshingly untethered about the gusto with which she reimagines Emily..." – Observer (UK)

"Mackey, in particular, is a powerhouse. The young star is matched well with O’Connor’s carefully calibrated, appealingly earnest script, which approximates a modern sensibility without striking a false note or straying from Emily’s contemporaneous moors." – Irish Times
