This Week’s Movie Reviews
Thank You

There aren't words to properly express how I feel right now. That over 1,400 people donated to our GoFundMe campaign is both humbling and overwhelming. I know that the Rose is appreciated by many people, but I never, never anticipated this kind of response. For someone who is often quiet but rarely without words, your generosity leaves me speechless. Your open hearts will see us through the winter. Hopefully the tide will turn with COVID-19, and we will be able to warmly and safely welcome you into Rose Theatre and Starlight Room once again. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart -- Rocky

Director. President. Rock Star. This is one of those unique anomalies about Port Townsend movie fans that always makes me smile, and makes my job even more rewarding. Our current streaming presentation of Werner Herzog's new film - NOMAD: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF BRUCE CHATWIN - has had one of the highest viewerships of any theatre in the country. Wow! "Absolutely wonderful. Thanks to Herzog's creative and thoughtful approach, this will stand out as one of the most impressive biographical documentaries of the genre." -Disappointment Media

How's this for a one-of-a-kind story line? If it hadn't been for a bottle of scotch and a late-night visit from musician Gregg Allman, Jimmy Carter might never have been elected 39th President of the United States. JIMMY CARTER: ROCK & ROLL PRESIDENT charts the mostly forgotten story of how Carter forged a tight bond with Willie Nelson, the Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan (seen above with Carter) and others. Low on campaign funds and lacking name recognition, Carter relied on support from these artists to give him a crucial boost in the Democratic primaries. Once Carter was elected, the musicians became frequent guests in the White House. Now that's definitely a one-of-a-kind story line, and a one-of-a-kind movie. "As joyful and buoyant as its music." -THR. "A documentary of infectious and lively nostalgia." -Variety. 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now streaming.

And to keep the beat going, beginning next Friday, 9/18, CHUCK BERRY: ORIGINAL KING OF ROCK 'N' ROLL.

     Pop-up popcorn this Saturday, September 12th, 2:00 - 5:00.

Cinematically yours,
Rocky
