This Week’s Movie Reviews
Emily

"For a while now, it seems as if there's no role too absurd or outrageous for Aubrey Plaza to play: an Instagram stalker in INGRID GOES WEST, a naughty nun in THE LITTLE HOURS, a flesh-eating zombie in LIFE AFTER BETH. The character she plays in EMILY THE CRIMINAL - an art-school drop out who masters the art of credit-card fraud, sounds almost low-key by comparison...it's also one of her strongest." Listen to more of this great review by Justin Chang. "A force-of-nature performance by Aubrey Plaza." -RogerEbert.com. "A show-stopping, intense thriller with depth." -Screen Rant. EMILY THE CRIMINAL opens in the Rose this Friday.

ALI & AVA is a compelling love story enveloped in music and imbued with humor. Director Clio Barnard has made an ode the beauty of messy, imperfect lives. Actors Adeel Akhtar and Claire Rushbrook are wonderful in the lead roles. "In its understated way, the movie is a celebration of the miracle of connection." -RogerEbert.com. ALI & AVA opens in the Starlight this Friday.

Fact: If the movie is released by National Geographic (FIRE OF LOVEFREE SOLOTHE RESCUEWE FEED PEOPLE), I know that it's going to be good. And indeed, THE TERRITORY, opening Friday is impressive. It's an immersive look at the tireless fight of the Amazon's Indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people against the encroaching deforestation brought by farmers and illegal settlers.

By community request, next Saturday and Sunday only (9/3-9/4) we're presenting THE HUMAN TRIAL, an unprecedented look at a radical stem cell treatment for diabetes. Filmmakers Guy Mossman and LIsa Hepner, who has Type 1 diabetes, were given real-time access to a clinical trial - only the sixth-ever embryonic stem cell trial in the world.

COVID PROTOCOL UPDATE: Proof of vaccination is only be required on Wednesdays (all six shows) for entry to the Rose and Starlight. Masks are still required at all times in the concession, lobby and restrooms. Following Jefferson County Public Health guidance, we strongly recommend that you continue wear a mask when not eating or drinking in the auditorium. We continue to limit capacity in all theatres.
