This Week’s Movie Reviews
Barbara Rubin

As MAIDEN goes into its 3rd hit week at the Rose this Friday, the unimaginable is happening this Thursday - the legendary boat featured in the film will be docking at the Northwest Maritime Center from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. This is the same boat that captain Tracy Edwards sailed into the record books with the first all-woman crew in the grueling Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989.

"Educate a Girl, Change the World " and "Anything is Possible" is the mission of Tracy's latest endeavor with the boat, under the international charity The Maiden Factor. Maiden will arrive under the command of Wendy Tuck. I hope to see you there.

And in memory and by request, TONI MORRISON: THE PIECES I AM returns for another week, along with ECHO IN THE CANYON. Both movies will be sharing the Rosebud screen.

BARBARA RUBIN AND THE EXPLODING NY UNDERGROUND ushers in the retooled Community Arts Film Series, presented in collaboration with Northwind Arts Center. It plays Saturday and Sunday only at 1:45. PAT STEIR: ARTISTshows September 14th and 15th; WALKING ON WATER October 12th and 13th.

The World Premiere of THE BOWMAKERS is sold out for this Saturday, but will be returning for the Port Townsend Film Festival, September 19th - 22nd, and then for a regular Rose engagement beginning September 27th.

THE FAREWELL ends this Thursday, and ONCE UPON A TIME IN...HOLLYWOOD is holding over for one more week. And starting next Friday (8/23), MARIANNE & LEONARD: WORDS OF LOVE.
