Sweet Requiem

I am honored this weekend to welcome directors Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam, whose film, THE SWEET REQUIM plays this Sunday at 1:00 in the Rosebud. REQUIEM is an attempt to weave together the disparate strands of the current Tibetan situation - both in exile and in Tibet - through an intimate and personal story that is part psychological thriller and part escape drama. At the same time it is an exploration of exile, memory and guilt, and the unexpected consequences of the choices we make in life. "Intensely personal and emphatically universal filmmaking." -Hollywood Reporter. "The film puts its points across with delicacy and sobriety rare in moviemaking." -The New York Times

The hilarious ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS from the National Theatre of London sold out last weekend so we're bringing it back for another show this Saturday at 11:00. DOWNTOWN ABBEY continues its remarkable run, but is moving into the Rosebud Friday to make room for JUDY, with Renee Zellwegger starring as the legendary performer Judy Garland. Our free Rose member screening last Saturday of RAISE HELL: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MOLLY IVINS was a unanimous hit, and so it returns for a regular Starlight engagement starting Friday. Please consider becoming a member before the next upcoming event.

THE BOWMAKERS has received and enthusiastic opening, and continues for a second week in the Starlight Room. This Sunday, however, THE BOWMAKERSwill show in the Rose at noon as a benefit for the Port Townsend High School orchestra's upcoming trip to Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Popcorn for all students is free. All tickets are $10. To keep up with current news about THE BOWMAKERS, join the newsletter here.

Our next classics film in the Starlight (10/16) is WILD RIVER, a beautiful, touching film directed by Elia Kazan and starring Lee Remick and Montgomery Clift. WEST SIDE STORY on December 4th is already sold out, but tickets are available for a second showing in the Rose on December 7th.
