Shazam! & More

The Rose is honored to host the Port Townsend Film Festival's fifth WOMEN & FILM event this weekend. You can review their entire program and purchase passes here. The two most popular films last weekend - WOMAN AT WAR and THE MUSTANG - are holding over for another week. Departing tomorrow - Thursday, 4/11 - is WHAT IS DEMOCRACY? and STYX.

Beginning Friday is director Christian Petzold's brilliant and haunting modern-day adaptation of Anna Saghers's 1942 novel "Transit Visa." TRANSIT tells the story of Georg, a German refugee who flees to Marseille where he assumes the identity of a recently deceased writer whose papers he is carrying. There he delves into the delicate and complex culture of the refugee community, becoming enmeshed in the lives of a young mother and son and falling for a mysterious woman. "Like a remake of CASABLANCA as written by Kafka." -Indiewire. "A stunning work." -RogerEbert.com. "Extraordinary...conceptually daring." -Variety

DC Comics has scored with SHAZAM!, a sunny superhero flick with heart and laughter. Apparently we all have a superhero inside us, and it only takes a bit of magic to bring it out.

Only 10 tickets remaining for GUYS AND DOLLS, our classics film in the Starlight next Wednesday, 4/17. This 1955 musical presents the ultimate odd couple. Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra play charismatic cats in hats and spats on the streets of New York. Jean Simmons is the gal who stumbles into their hustling schemes. Trailer
